Jet fuel and commercial LPG prices reduced in April revision

The prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) and commercial LPG cylinders have been reduced as part of the monthly price revision by oil companies. This move comes in response to changes in global fuel prices and provides relief to airlines and businesses that depend on these fuels.

Jet Fuel Prices Reduced

On Tuesday, the price of jet fuel (ATF) was cut by 6.1%, reversing the price hikes that had been implemented since February. The new prices are as follows:

  • Delhi: ₹89,441.18 per kilolitre (kl) (₹5,870.54 reduction)
  • Mumbai: ₹83,575.42 per kl
  • Chennai: ₹92,503.80 per kl
  • Kolkata: ₹91,921 per kl

The reduction in ATF prices is beneficial for the aviation industry, as fuel costs make up a significant portion of airline expenses. Lower jet fuel prices could help reduce operational costs for airlines and potentially result in lower airfare for passengers.

Commercial LPG Prices Also Cut

State-owned oil companies have also reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders, which are widely used in hotels and restaurants.

  • Delhi: ₹1,762 per 19-kg cylinder (₹41 reduction)
  • Mumbai: ₹1,713.50 per cylinder
  • Kolkata: ₹1,868.50 per cylinder
  • Chennai: ₹1,921.50 per cylinder

This reduction follows a ₹6 per cylinder increase in March. The price cut will bring some relief to the hospitality sector, which has been dealing with high fuel costs.

No Change in Petrol, Diesel, and Domestic LPG Prices

While ATF and commercial LPG prices have been reduced, the prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged. Currently, the prices in Delhi are:

The price of domestic LPG (used for cooking) also remains steady at ₹803 per 14.2-kg cylinder.

Why Do Prices Change?

State-run companies like Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) adjust fuel prices every month based on international crude oil prices and exchange rates. Different states have different fuel prices due to local taxes and VAT (Value Added Tax).

Conclusion

The reduction in jet fuel and commercial LPG prices is a positive step, providing relief to airlines, restaurants, and businesses. However, petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG prices remain unchanged. As global fuel prices fluctuate, further revisions may happen in the coming months.
